I have grown houttuynia (I am quoting your spelling of it) for several years. If you grow it in partial shade, slightly dry
soil, sith mulch; it does not seem to spread much. what does is easily pulled up. It is lovely, having more green & yellow
with the red in the shade. In the sun, it has much more bright crimson.
