Hello Vanessa,
Right you are on both companies. Shady Oaks is a good nursery and I have
always been happy with the plants I received from them. Decent sizes and
reasonable prices. Also a good catalog if you are not looking for color
photos of everything. K.Van Bourgondien I end up ordering something from
every second or third year. They seem to have something new each years I
can not find elsewhere and want in my garden. Never any problem with
quality or standing behind their merchandise.
I grow Hardy Cyclamen in the garden here. What species are you ordering
from them? I see you are from Louisiana, so you can grow them much easier
than I. Here I have to contend with drought in the fall and cold
temperatures in winter. You can have cyclamen in bloom all twelve months of
the year by picking three or four species for bloom periods. Then you can
pick quite a few variations on each theme such as silver leaf, white
blooms, etc within each species.
I keep mine in dry shade and well drained with root competition. The corms
must be kept on the dry side around here, especially in winter so they do
not stay wet and freeze. Plant shallow and mulch very lightly. They will
seed about when they are happy.
