Hello Clyde,
You should have what resembles square pancakes. The top will have what
looks like little brown twigs lumping around the surface or close to it.
All those tendrils hanging down is the underside and those are the roots.
The little twigs should go no more than one inch below the surface and
mulch should be on the light side. They are planted horizontally.
You can divide them into individual twigs or leave them in a clump for
better show this coming spring. Your choice.
Normally what you would receive is little brown twigs and nothing else.
What you have was pot grown for three years after division and I try to
leave things intact whenever I can during shipping.
Have I made any sense here? Let me know.
