Hello Bobbi,
My book on practical botany recommend a hand lens of about 8 to 10 X. The
rest of the tools listed for the practical botanist are: Field Guides &
Identification keys. hand lens, probe, tweezers, small plastic tray,
penlight and X-Acto knife. You will also need a field notebook, pen,
pencils, tape measure, ruler, and camera. For Collecting clippers,
absorbent paper, plant press, tags, wax pencil, trowel, artist's brush and
small envelopes.
Now all you need is energy to hike, good boots and something to drink
while resting under the tree with the fall leaves.
