Hi, I don't know if the zone makes a difference, but I have crocuses which
have 'naturalized' all over. In early spring, when they sprout and bloom,
almost all are in sun until the trees leaf out, after which their habitat
becomes partially to completely shady >>
Can it be that what you are thinking as "naturalized all over"
the squirrels have replanted them for you. A few years ago I planted a few
hundred crocus in groups under and around my hosta leaves
and the following spring they were all relocated by the furry tail critters
to places such as the middle of the lawn etc.
As the crocus come up in spring and begin to bloom I have trouble with
chipmonks eating the sweet nector from the center and I really loose a lot of
flowers this way.
