Cajun-
I didn't read any of the post before yours so I'm sorry if I'm repeating
something but Toad Lily is the common name - the botanical for these beauties
is Tricyrtis. Cajun- I'm in zone 9, just west of Houston and a wonderful
summer toad lily for me is the Tricyrtis formosa "Amethystina'. This one
begins to bloom when the weather warms and mine has just about two weeks ago
started to go dormant.....BEAUTIFUL. I will give you my arboretum sale
book's description: --Lily, Summer Toad: Perennail, Shade 2-3' H (in bloom).
Glossy green foliage w/dark speckles. Orchid-like 1" flowers are amythist
blue w/white throat, touched by yellow & speckled red. Blooms early-mid
summer.--
I purchased this one three years ago from a mail order nursery called
YuccaDo, but I have seen it in the trade this year. Earlier in the year
there was a really good conversation about Toad Lilies either on this list or
the perennial list--April-ish. They mentioned several sources (Forrest
Farms, Plants Delight & I know Munchkin has a few) and they also highly
recommended a few specific lilies. If you don't find it in the archives let
me know and I will try to find the info as I will probably be ordering a few
of these next month. I'm really wanting a white blooming one.
Cajun - I hope this helps you .....Happy gardening
