How about some bulbs? Eranthis hyemalis - Winter Aconite, Narcissi
in variety - early, mid-season, late.
Some of the Campanula do well in shade as do Digitalis - Foxglove.
Visit the Plantations and look at their shade garden. You have a
great resource there.
