I am told by a more knowledgeable person than I, that I got things
backwards a bit with Hymenocallis liriosme. (It would not be the first
time!)
H. liriosme is an obligate bog/swamp plant and has to be grown in water to
do well. Its leaves are green not glaucous; and it blooms early, the scape
emerging with the new foliage in spring.
All of which leaves me a bit confused about what some of the Hymenocallis
are that I have here! The plants I got from Gene Bush are different from
the bulb I got from Don Hackenberry. I'll take more careful note of the
appearances next season. One more season in the greenhouse in a pot, and
then I'll plant the bulb from Hackenberry in the ground outdoors. It
bloomed in its pot this summer in late July, and I recall that the scape
twisted as it extended.
