Thank you Howard and Harold for your comments.
I always try to mention that the plant is not registered or if I am uncertin
about a old historic, i.e. maybe it was registered at one time but the name
has been lost. NR is the abbreviation I use (not registered).
For a number of years Judith Freeman churned out hybrid lilies that she did
not register. It caused me difficulties in keeping things straight. I seem
to recall hearing that she is now going back and registering some of them.
Totally agree with you about the using or stealing and misuse of registered
names. It is much worse with lilies. Maybe it is getting better now, but
there are many lilies with stolen names and obscure identities floating
around, what a mess, totally exasperating. Yes it is you know who, that seem
to do it. We should not allow them to steal a plant from us, put a different
name to it and sell it back to us, snake oil salesmanship...
I will go get me a copy of the registration guidelines and application, it
should be years before I really need to use them. I still don't think that a
species selection needs to be registered, just like I don't think species
should be allowed to be patented... that's a whole other story
