OT: trying to leave Dallas :(

Hello,

I am still lagging after my odyssey of trying to get home. I was at the
Dallas airport at 8:00 AM and got home at 3:OO AM. That was 21 hours without
sleep.

Needless to say, it was raining in Manchester, NH and SNOWING in the
mountains up north and we drove through a raging snowstorm. When I woke up
on Saturday at 6:00PM, I had a headache the size of a bus.

One bright note: My reticulatas are blooming snow and all!

It was great to meet so many listers in Dallas.. still wondering about Carol
Warner who was scheduled to fly to Chicago with me....the last time I saw
her, she was changing gates and I was heading to another airline that was
half-way around the subterranean world under the Dallas airport....and I
missed the flight by 5 mins. Cute.

I had my two checked suitcases with me (after they yanked them off of the
Chicago plane - which is a story in itself). I was eventually heading for
Cleveland and hooked up another New Hampshireite whose luggage didn't get on
the last leg of our journey - last I knew.

Well, Kathy G., I have to pick up my mother-in-law to go OUT to dinner since
I am not cooking today. I haven't even unpacked...my long-suffering husband
stayed at the airport for 7 hours waiting for word about the plane. The
plane from Chicago to Manchester, NH never arrived and the United Airlines
desk had no word as to where it was. Meanwhile I was in Cleveland and and
couldn't get through to call so I tried to sleep on the floor to no avail.

United and Continental airlines were great as they did everything possible
to 1) take care of us 2) feed and water us ;) and 3) patiently listen to
bleary-eyed passengers. However, the guys at Northwest Airlines (where I
valiently struggled to catch their flight
and lost the battle) were rude and blamed me for being 5 mins. late
after riding the subway train for 1 hour trying to find them. They simply
said, "You missed the flight for reasons of your own. Next."

The convention was lovely and was marred only by the return trip home.

Next year, we drive to York, PA.

Cheers,

Ellen Gallagher / Berlin, NH / Zone 3
