Here is the Siberian Checklist entry for FOB;
Perhaps check this description against your plant. To me, your reported
height of 12 inches sounds way too far off from the registration height of
33 inches. ... but you never know! A combination of growing conditions of
both yourself and the registering hybridizer would certainly have an
impact. They potentially could be at opposite extremes... which may account
for the large height difference.
FLIGHT OF BUTTERFLIES Witt, Jean G. Reg. 1972 SIB Possibly A 40 Chrom (33"
84cm) M S. medium violet-blue, stylearms slightly more toward red-violet
side; F. white, entirely covered with butterfly wing pattern of violet-blue
veins. Unknown parentage. White Flower Farm ca 1975.
Best bet for identification, as always, is to get a start of the iris in
question from a reputable specialist grower and grow it side by side with
your original version and then compare. A photo comparison is not enough for
an exact iris identification.
