Hello members,
I thought I would share something I did with some of the seeds I had
this winter. They were specifically tetra siberian seeds.
Initially I was soaking all siberian iris seed and then potting them up
and placing them in a cool basement to wait for germination.
Then I read somewhere (on this list I believe) that light influenced
germination so I then soaked some tetraploid seed I still had (for about
4 days-changing the water daily). I then placed the seed on the surface
of my plant growing medium(peat based) in a seed tray and covered it up
with a clear lid. I then place the tray in an east facing window. I
noticed germination in less than two weeks. I did not count the seeds
initially, but I would say that germination was good ~70%-80% and fairly
even. Needless to say I was most impressed with this method of
germination and will use it in the future to see if I can get similar
results.
Maybe this is not anything new, but I thought I would share my results.
Jim in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where I did notice some green on the sibs
in the garden.
