Transplanting

Linda and others-
I'm a bit hesitant to admit, let alone share, my unorthodox methods, but for me it works. By the time I get around to dividing,I usually have a donut clump that is still blooming, because I fill in the center with 3yr old sheep compost and also around outside of clump. When dividing time comes(spring-new growth about 2", I take my bulb auger attached to cordless drill, and drill center and remove soil and debris loosened with trowel. Then I water in the hole and around the clump and leave it overnight. The next morning, using 2border forks, back to back,I separate the ring, go 1/4 round and repeat twice which gives you 2 quarters which I then lift-after loosening on inside and outside of ring-I soak these sections with aSuperthrive solution overnight.
I leave half theplant in place and work OLD sheepcompost into surrounding soil filling in hole left and water with Superthrive. THe old half always blooms and the sometimes the divisions so, if left fairly large. Iwater a couple times a week, unless there's good rain. This works well in cool, rainy weather. I have problems transplanting in warm soil, and water daily ifpossible-last my irrigation system sprung a leak and I had to shut it down because of other farm emergencies.
Fall plantings with 2 day Superthrive soaking take 2 yrs. to bloom, spring(from orders) 1 yr.
