Re: Moving siberians in the fall - don't.

I am worn out but maybe that is because I am dividing
irises and replanting, etc. I do water effusively
(using the archaic meaning to "pour profusely" :-)
when moving plants (not limited to irises) but
especially Siberians. I keep it up until frost and
start again at the end of the frost season in the
spring for new ones or those I have moved. Again,
being cognizant of my personality = less physical
chores the better - I have to give myself a good
reason to move anything.

For instance, I moved the MTB, OZARK DREAM, earlier
this week only because it was completely out of sight
in a border where it was surrounded by taller plants.
I moved every little increase, etc. belonging to O.D.
Now it has a nice uncluttered area in a new border to
strut its stuff. Same with Siberians - they are only
moved when it is absolutely necessary (in my view ;-).
I moved SPRINKLES last year hoping to coax it into
bloom...maybe next year.

Arnold Koekkek just wrote a post to iris-talk about
watering and differing climates and conditions. We do
what seems right and less stressful for the plants and
ourselves. August has always been the time I
recondition my garden and decide what to do..just
works for me. I move very few establised plants as a
practical matter...

Cheers,

Ellen (over 91 F degrees when I went out earlier...now
it is back down to 89 but the humidity is wicked)
