I will leave the straw on and bait for critters then.

I wish I could get pine straw. I almost had a supplier, but he had not gotten any in yet, and they really needed the mulch before the hot weather so I put the straw on. The straw is easy to put down, and seemed to work very well, as I have lots of new growth on the irises.

I do cut the leaves down in the fall.
