Martin, I'm just getting my feet wet in the sibirica world. Too, I seem to be 
outside the mainstream of thought concerning the merits of colchicine 
conversion of diploids in the iris world.

That being said, I think your idea sound. Regardless of whether there is or 
is not a "better or brighter" yellow out there you would most likely be working 
with new genetic material unless there are already introductions available 
that came from such a conversion.

I have successfully converted daylilies using several different conversion 
techniques but have not yet attempted irises. Though information concerning iris 
conversion techniques is sparse I have had some helpful input from several 
individuals in the iris community.

As words of encouragement for your idea I offer the following: One of the 
successful early converters in the daylily world now has four Stout Medals 
(highest daylily award) to his credit, his daylily introductions command the highest 
prices for the longest period of time, and he is still young enough to 
hybridize plants for another thirty years.
