Hi Lana and all, we haven't gotten our TSI yet but suspect it's coming soon.
Brian Wendel of Ossian,Indiana, made a list of siberians registered as
fragrant and we have been corresponding about fragrance for a couple of
weeks. They are:
Adelia Galas Galas '98
Arbee Wood '89
Brian Ray Hahn '95
Bridal Jig S/S '93
Carmen Jeanne Helsley '93
Cleeton Moon Hewitt '83 (40chromosome)
Cleeton Tiger Hewitt '83 (40chromosome)
Festival Prelude Helsley '92
Heather's Gem Lucas'94
Illini Valor Varner '92
Janet K. Merrill Briscoe '84
Jaybird Hager '82
Just Because S/S '94
Little Papoose Varner '92
Mabel Coday Helsley '80
Precious Illini Varner '87
Roy Bohrer Briscoe '86
Twilight Thoughts Helsley '90
Salamander Crossing S/S '99
To this list I would add Rosseline Hewitt (28 chromosome not introduced),
and a fluffy white seedling of ours from Careless Sally, Forrest McCord and
Isabelle, that has the smell of oranges and that might be introduced in a
couple of years.
Any other stories of scented siberians? Is it a trait worth breeding for?
In our experience it is inheritable, but so far no children have had stronger
fragrance than the parents. We have not been putting a lot of energy into
fragrance though, just taking potluck.
