I'm going to stick my two cents worth in here, too.
It is a known fact that each person perceived fragrance differently. The way
an iris smells can also be influenced by whether the sniffer has a cold, is
on medications, or is a smoker. The scent can depend on such diverse things
as the weather, and where the iris is planted. The same iris planted at
opposite ends of a garden might smell entirely different...and yes, the soil
content definitely affects the scent.
It is still a virtue worth breeding for, and a sweet smelling pink would be
worth a fortune!
