Mike,
I have copied both Red Emperor and Hellen Astor photos and done both close
in one pic. I now have no more Hellen Astor, but how I remember the colour
is lighter than in photo. When hybridiser decide to register variety he
compare with parent not only flower, but flowering time, leaves, growth
strength and so on. The flower of course is the main thing for comparison.
Many of our members I hope could discuss more about both when will study my
little jpg file. And other thing which I have observed myself: sometimes two
varietes or clones in the garden look like little or no distinquish between
them, but when photo from top, side and some angle are done, differences are
better visible.
