Hi Howard, the photos were taken with regular slide film. Jan uses a tripod
and slow film to focus as much of the flower as possible. We sent them to
Kodak to put on a CD. It costs about $1.00 a slide plus $10 for the CD. We
then took the CD to a friend who has Photoshop where the pictures were
cropped, sharpened, color-corrected, and some of the junk like hybridizing
tags, spent flowers and blobs of pine pollen were removed. The whole process
was like magic. The tools were so powerful that great care had to be taken
not to over-state reality. For instance too much sharpening can cause
flowers to look like they are coming right off the page. We tried to make
things look only as good as they are (we used the RHS color chart to keep us
on the straight and narrow). Marty
