Re: TETRAPLOIDS - DIPLOIDS

Very very simply, diploids are the normal number of chromosomes for that type of plant. Tetraploids have twice as many chromosomes as a diploid. Having twice as many chromosomes normal affects the plant structure and the bloom structure. Whether those changes are an advantage is/can be debated. Modern TBs are all tetraploids. Efforts to chemically achieve tetroploidy in arilbreds, Siberians and Louisiana irises has been going on for years with various levels of success and acceptance.

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between these?   Are there others
also?  What makes them tetra or dip.   And what are the characteristics?
Tets bigger?   Dips more fragrant?   Please someone explain this to me?
