Bill,
iris species in the North usually less variable than in Japan for example.
But last year interesting maroon color variation of Iris ensata was found by
Mrs. Ludmila Mironova from Vladivostok Botanical Garden. You should contact
her at mironova@bgi.dvo.ru . I. sanguinea is usual there.
