Re: *** SPAM *** Distinctive Sibs / Images

Siberian Iris and Daylilies are indeed good companion plants. The first time
we visited Currier McEwen, a major siberian and Japanese Iris hybridizer who
just died last year at 101, I got home and realized I'd not seen his Daylilies
and commented on that to him in a round robin letter and he said he grew them
in same row alternating them. When the siberians were blooming the foliage on
the daylilies was quite small. I would think they might need to be spaced a
bit further apart for all plants to get enough sunlight. There are now good
yellows, a bit pricey yet in iris terms, not daylilies, Tom Schaeffer, Summer
Revels and Just Cruising are deep yellows and much darker than the first Dreaming
Yellow and Butter & Sugar that were introduced in the '70's. I love Super Ego
and Roaring Jelly in lighter blue-purples and of course there are several
light pinks-Cheery Lyn, Fond Kiss, Mary Louise Michie and the darker ones
Strawberry Fair. The Siberian Society puts out a Favorite List and then the
Morgan-Wood winners makes a good guide. Have you gone to the Jim Wilson site as part of
the AIS site? anna mae
