I have located my tour book from the 1993 Siberian Iris Convention in East
Lansing, Michigan. Ueber Den Wolken is listed as a guest iris and is marked
with an "*" meaning an iris donated by the hybridizer for the Saturday night
auction. Apparently the only surviving plant was in the Maynard Garden.
I kept a record of the prices paid for the guests during the aution but made
no notation as to price for that particular iris. That may mean that it was
not offered or it may mean that I was not paying attention at that
particular point.
Offering an iris for sale at one of the convention auctions does, I think,
constitute introduction. However, most times that information is not sent
on to the registrar. In those cases you have irises which people assume are
introduced but which technically are not official.
I checked the last couple catalogs from Neiswonger, Helsley and
Schafer/Sacks and none of them list this particular variety. I think those
sources would be the most likely to list Tamberg irises. Enstata Gardens may
also have listed it but I can not located their 1999 catalog at this time.
I'm glad that I did not list it in my catalog this year.
