Hello eveyone!
Here is one the Hollingworths can answer for me.
The 1991 Siberian Checklist lists Coronation Anthem as a diploid??!?!
Just a typo? The TSI registration listing is marked tetraploid. I am sure
its tetraploid. Chehalem Gardens were I purchased CA listed it as
tetraploid. Is this demonstrating fertility both ways? Ha Ha!
The branching on CA is remarkable! Last season each stem had at least 1 if
not 2 wide branches. Like those on modern TBs. It was an easy section
winner at our show.
It changes form (two distinct stages) as the flower matures, approx. the
first day and a half the form is tight (may not be the right word -
closed?). This is when it looks its very best, not that it does not look
good all the time. Later the flowers form opens and the falls curve down
slightly.
I have a couple seedlings (Jewelled Crown is also a parent) which also show
this characteristic. To see what I mean look at the picture at the SSI web
site and the pix at Aitkins Solomon Iris garden. My seedlings also seem to
have almost two separate form phases. A full rounded form, which holds
awhile and then a second more opened form before they wither.
Have others of you also noticed this in CA?
