Subject: [sibrob] Orthochaeta dissimilis

Hi Everyone:

Now that 2008 is here (and you all have time to spare) - I would like
to bring up the subject of Orthochaeta dissimilis commonly known as
the bud fly! The larvae (maggots) of this fly attack the flower
buds of Siberians chewing up the flowers before they are able to
open. It has been considered a minor pest of Siberians but we have
reports that it is becoming a serious pest in some areas. It would be
useful to know ( and list in TSI) how widespread is the problem. If
you could answer via the sibrob and let us know where you live and if
it is a problem with you it would be much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch and good gardening in 2008. Judy
