Re: growing iris from seed

First, I need to tell you that the following information is from the book
"The Siberian Iris" by Currier McEwen and discussions with hybridizers and
not from personal experience.

You can place the seeds 1/2" deep in pots of any size you want in October. I
would recommend individual small peat pots as the best way. Place outside
and keep moist until the seeds germinate. Line out seedlings before roots
are entangled with other seedlings. You can use whatever you want for the
soil but a commecial germinating mix is recommended. Lining out details are
flexible depending on your situation. 12" spacing within the row, 30"
spacing between rows is a very workable system. Frequent fertilization with
water soluble fertilizers will gain size and time to first bloom.

With all growing from seeds, it is important to keep only the good ones.

This is basic as you requested. There are a variety of ways to do more work
and maybe improve the results. Good luck with your irises.
