Re: Ruffles and Flourishes

Hi Everyone

Great photo Marilyn and congratulations to Bob Hollingworth for the win
Some thought needs to go into producing a press release written by a garden writer of professional journalist to celebrate the Morgan Wood Medal.  Whilst this would cost a little of the SSI funds the investment would help with the marketing and increase the public profile of Siberian Irises and SSI and the photo of Marilyn would help with the promotion. The feature would also be used in TSI and also as a feature on the web site. The press release needs to be complete by January 2010 which is the time that garden magazines feature new season plants.
I can add that information I have from the 'Siberian Iris Month' that I had featured on my blog in February  this year was and still is well visited.
The society should have a sophisticated marketing policy to take advantage of the public interest in the Siberian Irises.
It is just not an option anymore to just make observations about lack of interest in new membership of the society and all the existing   membership needs to be involved in the direction the society needs to take.
Having an Internationally recognized Award for a Siberian Iris is a marketing advantage the society should not ignore
Thats my ten cents worth which some may say is all its worth.
