A huge *TIP o' THE HAT* should go to Farron Campbell, AIS Awards Chairman
who, first time ever, distributed the AIS Awards electronically.
Up to this time, early distribution of the Awards List occurred IF a judge
or other interested individual sent the Awards Chairman a stamped, self
addressed envelope. Each years Awards' listing appears in the October AIS
Bulletin, usually three to four months after compilation.
I could very much wish that each flower class had its web site where
breaking news such as awards, etc., could be posted hours after the event.
Since the HIPS site enumerates Dykes winners, I post a Dykes photo,
pedigree and photo of the hybridizer (so far, always less than one day
after release of awards listings). The Dykes winner is probably the only
area where a modern cultivar is appropriate for the HIPS site.
If you belong to a special interest iris group, and do not currently have a
web site for that group, (section, co-operating society or unaffiliated)
AGITATE!!! There is no lack of qualified individuals -- all it takes is
interest, a modicum of ability, a modest time investment and ENCOURAGEMENT.
Irisarians are a community, but until just a short time ago, the rate of
information dissemination could have been matched by a 75 year old jogger
lugging a stack of mimeographed flyers door to door. We *can* change this!
Cheers,
