Hi Keny,
One alternative to putting the SIBs in pots is to put them *under* pots.
Our weather from mid-May to the end of August is a bit erratic. Temperatures
can jump into the 90s overnight and it's possible to get nailed by frost
during any month of the year. This method gives some protection no matter
what Mom Nature throws at us.
Simply plant the new arrival where you want it and after watering in, put a
pot (upside down- gallon or larger) over it immediately. The pot provides
shade during the day, some frost protection at night if needed, and the
drainage holes allow for ventilation.
The pots are taken off as it begins to cool down in the evenings and popped
back on as it starts to warm up during the day. The new plants are weaned
away from the pots gradually over a week by exposing them to more sun every
day.
Less transplant shock and no worry that the roots will cook or drown from
being trapped in a pot.
