The following comment is kind of OT but it does relate to this 
subject.  I hope it will be allowed to post.  :o)

I read a study not long ago that indicated that urban communities in 
which there were abundant trees, flowers and plants had lower crime 
rates than urban communities with little or no greenery.  The theory 
was that the greenery and flowers calm hot tempers, provide more 
oxygen, and cool the surrounding area, esp. in the summer.  People 
were more likely to know their neighbors and more likely to help one 
another in difficulties.

By extension, perhaps it isn't surprising that these volunteers come 
away with increased self-respect and pride in their abilities.  
Perhaps they will be less likely to get into trouble after release.

This is a good project.  I always have some plant that I can't seem 
to get rid of, so I'll check with local programs and see whether they 
can use it.  I'll be dividing again in August so this was perfect 
timing.  Thanks for the idea, Sue!
