Re: SHOW: Artistic division

I guess we are more fortunate in our club and show than I realized.  Contrary to what I've been reading about others, we keep getting more and better arrangements at our show every year.  We don't have a big club (less than 3 doz. members, some inactive at that), and not a huge show, either, esp. this year when so many of the members had very little left at show time because the season was so early.  But we had 23 arrangements, more than we've had before, and they were really good ones.  The show was this past Saturday, and because the season was so off-normal there were many more Siberians used in the arrangements than we generally see.  Also the number of indiv. Sib speciments was much above normal, as that's all some people had left.  I don't have exact count, but I'm thinking there were at least 50 Sibs, instead of the usual 6-10.  Under those circumstances I was especially happy to have my HARBOR MIST chosen as Best Siberian.
One thing that helps generate interest in arrangements for us is that most years we have one of our monthly meetings whose program topic is arranging.  One of our members is especially gifted at arranging, he is also a Federated Garden Club judge, and he will teach the others some of the techniques.  It's made for a lot of interest, and it has made people dare to try entries for the show.
Our judges are always the same AIS judges who do the indiv. specimens, which can have drawbacks, as they don't always have the expertise they should.  But that hasn't hurt our numbers.
