Liberty Hills and Esther C.D.M. were late bloomers in my
garden (my former garden) but Mesa Pearl was even later in
bloom and was my last Siberian to flower....
I had to leave all of these Siberians in place so the new
owner now has custody of them. :( But I have ordered new
ones for this garden.
BTW, my Siberian season has begun with a lot in colored bud
and a few in bloom. Four new blooming one-year herbaceous
peonies are outdoing the Sibs, I am afraid. Jamaican Velvet (Sib)
opened yesterday and I have to ask Tom Abrego what he does to
his Siberians. They were just little runts last August when I
planted them and all of his (every one) is going to bloom. Wow.
I am especially anxious to see Cheery Lyn (Anna Mae Miller's
pinkish one). I have never seen it along with Dancing Shadows
and Rosebud Melody (also Anna Mae's). These came from Jody
Camille and they are in bud...also looking forward to Raspberry
Rainbow from Chandler Fulton, etc. Four new ones (for me) of
Dana Borglum's are in bloom or getting to open. Lake Keuka
is so special.
These were all new rhizomes planted less than one year ago and
in Zone 3, I used to have to wait at least two years for bloom
sometimes three (excepting Sibs from Jody that always bloomed
in one year - she is in my neighborhood, so to speak).
A bit of bloom from the beardeds this first year but not very
much, disappointing. The Japanese irises are struggling with a
little higher pH than I had in my former place. I am pouring on
water which I should have tested, thinking that I may be doing
more harm to them depending on the test results.
Cheers,
Ellen
