Deep planting is also supposed to help them be long lived. I have
one dark purple blue hybrid that has prospered and spread for at
least 4 years now, while other varieties have vanished. The yellow
danfordiae has survived, but only a few from each initial planting,
and they don't seem as eager to spread. The flowers are bigger
this spring, however, maybe because of the mild temperatures. I wish
I could remember the name of the blue variety that is doing so well.
