Hello,
I've been reading the messages in the archives till I'm in a coma
but I have learned so much, Thanks to you all. I've gardened
seriously for about 18 years, 2 years ago I was given a "pacific
coast native" From a woman who was showing me her garden. ( one of
those visits where she kept saying "here have a piece of this you'll
love it") Well the PCN turned out to be a beautiful siberian( an as
yet un-named purple) And I was hooked, I divided it into 4, spaced it
in my mixed border and it went to town. Next I purchased what I could
find locally, they bloomed last spring. Butter and Eggs, Steve,
Chilled Wine, Snow Queen. I thought since that was one of each color
I would be fine. Oh so wrong.
I have a large perennial garden, with many HT and David Austin roses
mixed in, Oriental Poppies are another passion. I grow some other
families of iris including our tiny sierra natives, a couple TB and
spuria. The Siberians have something special for me.
Then we got the computer, and I learned to use the WEB. I found many
sites, ( they come in other colors???). Since then I have ordered
some from Ensata, drove 2 hours to buy several from Harold Peters,
Some are spiking I'm so excited. I have sent in my dues to the SSI,
Joined a local club, an e-mail Siberian group ( same as Joyce's) and
have been enlisted to do a talk on Irises to our Master Gardeners
next Fall. I have traded for some on the Garden web with some very
nice people But can't stop thinking about Siberians. I've been
reading Marty's Hybridizing articles in the archives and have big
dreams.( we'll see. )
Any way I wanted you to know this newbie is Listening in and really
learning a lot from all of you about this new passion , or is it an
addiction? Thanks Deb
