Jack Bilson Jr. -- Rosy Hem Garden
Salisbury, North Carolina -- zone 7 Good Morning, The W95.MTX virus was received by one of the members of a group I belong to this morning. The accompanying attachment was labeled as
Geocities_Free_Sites.txt.pif (18.5kb).
The member thought that it was just another regular piece of mail from one of several foreign correspondents and proceeded to open the attachment. Fortunately, she had Norton Antivirus software up and running in her computer. Upon opening the attachment, Norton immediately identified and quarantined the virus. As a result, her computer's operation was not affected. This underscores the need for everyone to have a good up to date antivirus software program actively running in their computers. If you don't have updated antivirus in your computer your computer is very much at risk. It is very easy to be fooled by incoming virus mail, as some as some virus messages at first look rather innocent. During the past month five members who thought their computers were safe from viruses, had their computers crash. None had updated antivirus software running in their computer. Technical assistance was needed to clean these computers and get them up and running once again. Take care,
Jack
