If I had been looking at this e-mail in the last couple of days I could have saved some speculation about Roku Oji, but, late as it is, here's the story. We got RO (and also Ama-no-hane) from Mr. Shimizu a few years back and introduced them for him in 2000. I needed another year (2001) to get decent height data on Ama-no-hane for its description, so these two registrations weren't submitted until quite late in 2001. Apparently they arrived too late to make it into the 2001 registration list. So, they will appear in 2002 registrations. RO may well be the most attractive of the 6-fall siberians and certainly grows very vigorously for us. It's only real drawback is a lack of branching/bud count which is prety much typical of I. sanguinea. Sorry to cause confusion. Bob Hollingworth. (Where the earliest typhifolia flowers stalks were just frozen out. You would think such an early northern species would be frost resistant. Unfortunately, Not so.
