Bloom report

From: Thomas Gormley <TGORMLEY@compuserve.com>

I am so excited. We have had a wonderful bloom season here (started 5-3)
for the established Sibs and the nursery bed (last year's babies) was about
50% with Polly Dodge blooming yesterday. We ordered spring shipment on 28
new kids and most were planted the week of 4-14-99 in a new bed by the
sidewalk where we go by it all the time (and water!).

Today, 5-25-99 we have two of the new kids blooming!!! Seneca Blue Rose
and Seneca Night Sky are the happiest little campers in their new bed and
we thank Borglums for sending them early and in such a happy condition. A
combination of great shipping, good planting (thanks to Tom) and cool,
fairly rainy spring has made almost everything in this bed, from 5
different suppliers, just so happy.

Thank you Andy Wheeler for spouting the advantages of Spring planting -
here in Missouri, it is an advantage to get them in and happy before it
gets hot.

By the way, Region 18 Spring Tour in Kansas City this past weekend was
great with almost peak bloom and tons of Siberians. In Region Favorite -
"Where Eagles Dare" by our own Calvin Helseley (over all the gorgeous TBs).
One guest garden had only Siberians and Species - can you imagine a garden
without bearded iris? 30 or so guests Sib/Spec with a new "star" in NEAT
TRICK, J. White, 97 Siberian that is a "splashed" (Batik type) siberian.
Beautiful weekend of irises and friends.
