Re: Meetings

From: Jpwflowers@aol.com

Hi Maureen, sorry to be obscure. Members of the Iris Society of
Massachusetts (ISM) host two annual events that are not really ISM events,
but ISM publicizes them. One is a sale and auction of beardless irises of
all sorts donated by participants for the benefit of the beardless iris
sections. The emphasis is on siberians, but all kinds of apogons are sold -
japanese, louisianas, species of all sorts slightly favoring cresteds, and
even some non-iris irids. It takes place at our house in August - this year
Sunday, August 8. We gather about 9:30 or 10 and show slides of all
hybridizers who have some. Then we have lunch, and finally the sale and
auction in the shade of some white pines. It's a fun event with about 30
participants.

The hybridizers' meeting happens in late January to early March depending on
scheduling conflicts. It hasn't been scheduled yet. Hybridizers - species,
bearded as well as beardless - from around the region gather to talk about
and show their progress, ideas and problems. It takes place in the home of
Barbara and David Schmieder in Concord, Mass. The iris public is welcome,
though notice of intention to come is appreciated. No money changes hands,
just a lot of ideas and good will. It's a great way to spend a gray winter
day.

ISM's dues are $3 a year.

Take care, Marty
