Re: gray siberian flowers

Hi Dorothy,

I am from zone 3 like Jim, but here in Alberta. We have had quite a
warm fall so far - hardly any snow cover right now unfortunately.
Last week the temperatures were +8 C (46 degrees Farenheit).

The lack of "white mulch" has me a bit worried for when we do finally
get in the deep freeze, which is bound to happen soon. The snow cover
really helps to protect the iris during our sometimes wickedly cold
winter months. The lilies don't ever seem to mind if we have a lack
of snow though, and always seem to do well up here.

I'm happy to see someone on the list from Saskatoon. Several summers
ago my husband and I drove to Saskatoon for the International Master
Gardener Conference. We were extremely impressed with the city and
its gardeners. As we drove through the city it seemed every yard had
flowers in bloom including a few irises. And we saw the newly
introduced 'Master Gardener' lily.

You must be pretty cold up there by now.
