HYB: mutagenesis
Bill,
Colchicine and herbicides have been used and several techniques have
been reported to be quite successful. The best concise report that I've
found on this subject can be found at:

I've used colchicine. Getting set up cost me about $50. The biggest
hassle is getting the colchicine. Surflan and Treflan are readily
available and a little less expensive.
BTW, George Bush told me that Ackerman's Japanese iris, 'Pink Bunny' was
grown from irradiated seed. 'Pink Bunny' is one of the worst growing
JI's I've ever attempted. I saw one disaffirmed bloomstalk after 3
years, then it politely died.
