Hi,

This is indeed a species, not a Siberian.  Another clue, as shown in the 
photo, is the very glossy green leaves.  It supposedly has a grape scent.  
The species is Iris graminea, a dwarf spuria iris.  It is charming, but not 
very showy since, as you mentioned, the flower stems are shorter than the 
leaves.  For us, the flowers tend to hang out the sides of the clump.  It is 
very easy to grow in our area.
