Hello all,
some words about deviding siberians. For commercial purposes /selling/
I think the best is divisions with two-three leave fans and newly
formed white roots. Leading roots not need to be long-after planting
they grow and produce smaller feeding roots. Such a roots began grow
about two weeks or more depending from weather and moisture on new fans
which have grown in period until flowering. But calling about
"appropriate" divisions there are not standing rule. For examle once I
had from Judy Hollingworth "Sultans Rubby" instead of one division 5
singles with note, that this variety after digging out tend
desintegrate to single ones. Now I am quite satisfied instead of one
clump having 5 which grow perfect. The tendency of fan desintegration
I myself have observed earlier replanting my ownes. So if you like to
sell the variety with such features you will be never succesfull to
have "good appropriate" division, but can compensate including greater
number of divisions. Good method of preparation divisions for selling
is planting in the pots. This allow to make growing conditions
depending on weather. Like Kumamoto JI I think they must be set and
planted as single fans after flowering when new roots began to grow.
First two weeks must be protected from sun and winds. By good care and
growing conditions in autumn each rhizome of single fan store good
amount of feeding substance from other hand produce some side buds,
the strongest which show tips of leaves. This method require, of
course, more work for care.
