Ok, I'm sure many of you noticed a bunch of problems with the eGroups
web site on Friday September 8th. Well, there were a couple of
problems...
For one, the Internet Service Provider we use, Global Center, had one of
their major fibre optic cables cut. This caused a large amount of
network congestion, which caused intermittent access to our web site
from 10:20am to 2:15pm.
To add insult to injury, we then lost power at 10:50am to some of our
machines. This interrupted mail delivery and archive access for some
groups until noon.
One of the machines that went down contained our bounce database. It
didn't come back up, and we eventually had to restore it from backup.
The bounce database was down until 5:45pm. This means that all pages on our
site which contained extended bounce information would have had no bounce
information until the database was back online.
All times in US/Pacific (-0700 GMT).
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Brandon
