I have a Mantis tiller that I love to death. Sweet Leonard got me one last
year after he watched me struggling with trying to incorporate organics into
our heavy clay. This is what it does best. When I work a bed, I first break
up the soil with a shovel... then fling on compost, peat moss, alfalfa
pellets and such...... I think of my Mantis as a soil Cuisinart - it's not
going to chop up an entire rutabaga - BUT, if you get the rutabaga into
manageable bits, it'll take it from there.

My beds are wonderfully mixed and the Mantis can get into the smallest spaces
without too much effort. And it's easy to start, and forgiving if you try to
do something you shouldn't..... like till up weed barrier or soaker hose (not
good).
