I have a Ryoboi 2 cycle tiller that is very easy to use. It is
comparable to the Mantis. I use it for light tilling and weed control
around plants, mostly in the vegetable garden. I have chronic back pain
and using a hoe or rake aggravates the condition, but using the tiller
requires little spinal twisting and therefore no pain. My sister in
North Carolina also uses one with ease. She is 5'4", 110 lbs and has had
a radical mastectomy.
I have not had reason to use my small tiller in beardless iris beds, but
I have a larger rear tine tiller that I use for preparing new beds. By
"mega-gardening" standards, it's still small, only 5 horsepower, but it
gets the job done.
