Bob, I'm glad to read your opinion on test gardens. Though I am not much of a hybridizer, my
views closely parallel yours. Having been active in a variety of organizations over the years,
I suspect that a project as demanding as a test garden could be hard for any volunteer
organization to sustain. Further, evaluation of irises is something that should be done
throughout the bloom AND growing season. This is best done by having the plant grow right
under your nose.

I prefer that there be more emphasis on display gardens--individuals who will welcome visitors
(i.e. judges) to their gardens to evaluate the plants that grow there.

By the way, I have been accused of being grouchy on occasion.
