I'm not certain just where Skidaway Island is, near Edisto Beach
area or between Edisto and Hilton Head. Fortunately those areas
had similar damage to our island I believe. The winds were severe
but not as forecasted thank goodness! 0n islands the surge brings
the biggest fear and that didn't occur for most of us but North
Carolina at Wilmington suffered an after surge. Power outages
were everywhere but that's easy to prepare for. Downed
power lines from the downed trees and winds created the most
damage for this area. If they are near other waterways, like
Edisto River, there was flood damage.
I'm sure it's hard having to slow down in your hybridizing efforts
but I'm sincere in saying you have contributed so much beyond
your creations; to garden club, AlS, affiliates, your region, etc.
Knowing your children will live on to bring joy to so many is
gratifying I know, but wanting to continue with something that
has been so exciting and fulfilling to you is great, but now at
a slower pace!
Have you had your fall region meeting yet? Do you remember
the Bruno's, judges from your region, now residents of Region V
living in Savannah, GA. Also a couple have moved from your
region to East Bay,FL., I believe there name is Walford or
something like that. Their credentials have not been transferred
to me as yet, or to our RVP Randel Bowen.
Are you and Ron doing any fall travelling? So far you've had
relatively mild weather.
I,too, hope to go to the convention in Iowa and look forward to
more details. The Dallas convention should be fun also and
know we will see some beardless at Marie Caillet's garden.
Did you ever grow many Louisiana's.? I like Siberians and
Japanese so much better, but Siberians are not easy for me
to grow. I'm trying some container gardening and then
putting them in the ground after increase is established and
a bloom season. I don't have EstherCDM or Coronation Anthem
but intend to get them to see if they might like the climate here.
Full morning sun and afternoon shade from the extreme heat
worked a bit better this year. Caesar's Brother is grown very
well here and is in many perennial gardens.
