This article convinces me George Sutton is assuredly of Southern descent.
The words are at the same time poignant and certainly in ways profound.
While it is unlikely George and I will ever cross paths, perhaps never even converse, he is a hero among heroes here.
Apparently unassuming and sharing what he has learned willingly in a matter of fact way is reason enough for a person to garner respect from me.
But more so, and what makes a hero a hero, he early on had a passion for an iris form that suffered disdain by purists and those who would have him adopt their own concept of beauty. True enough others came before George that did pioneering work in space agers. Certainly I appreciate those people and their efforts.
But for me it is the man who takes the ball, gives his all proceeding toward his own goal, oblivious to obstacles in pursuit of his own objectives rather than those others may have defined who is a deserving person. For me, that a hero's hero.
No one can deny that George Sutton has run a touchdown in the iris world and against some daunting odds. He has taken space agers to level of popularity that was at one time unimaginable when he got in the game. This is true if George Sutton does nothing else, ever.
I cannot imagine a space age iris award named for any other person than George Sutton.
Smiles,
Bill Burleson
