shelves ledges and BSE's

What shelves are would not sink into my thick skull despite all the
wonderful pictures. It wasn't till I actual looked at blooms till I got it.

Now folks, you are just going to have to bear with me because I am lazy
and a non-typists so I am going to use some temporary terms and
abbreviations for a while.

BS, not what Bill and I usually write but Beard Spine, The part of the
iris that the beard hairs are attached to and is in turn splined the
fall along the midline.( Kelly, please chime in with the correct
botanical terns anyyytiiimmme)

BSE, Beard Spine Extention, extends from the the BS without the "hairs".
There are good examples in the temp related photos.

Devils Spoon has the beginning of a seperation at the end of the beard.
It also shows what Neil was talking about and what I call the tall
Mohawk look to the beard where it joins the fall.
